Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar Sunday conceded the race for the vacant 50th Congressional District seat and congratulated his opponent, former Rep. Darrell Issa.

Republican Darrell Issa won California’s 50th Congressional District near San Diego, the Associated Press projected, defeating Democratic challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar. California's 50th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. State of California, and encompasses the central and northeastern parts of San Diego County and a small part of Riverside County. Darrell Issa is currently the U.S. Representative for California's 50th congressional district. From 2003 through 2013, California's 52nd consisted of many of San Diego's northern. As of Thursday, the Associated Press has declared a winner in 18 of New York’s 27 congressional districts, including successful re-election bids for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Rep.

'To Darrell Issa, I congratulate him on a hard-fought campaign, and look forward to working with him in service of the district I love,' Campa-Najjar said in a statement released Saturday.

Issa was leading Friday, 53.3% to 46.7%, or 159,864 votes to 139,973 votes, according to results from the California Secretary of State's Office.

Hunter pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge and was sentenced earlier this year to an 11-month prison term, which he has yet to begin serving.
