RACING CALENDAR
The racing schedule for the America’s Cup Match has two races per day planned for March 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 15. Additional reserve days have been scheduled but the intention is to complete the event on the weekend of March 13/14, weather permitting. The winner will be the first team to score seven points.
The Waitematā Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf, widely regarded as ‘the jewel in Auckland’s crown’, will offer a plethora of race course options, with a full range of wind directions and conditions.
Five potential race courses have been identified for both the America’s Cup Match and the PRADA Cup on an area that runs south along the North Shore beaches around North Head encompassing the inner Waitematā Harbour right up to Auckland's iconic harbour bridge and downtown CBD, across Auckland's eastern suburbs and all the way out the Tamaki Strait between Waiheke Island and Maraetai.
The race course, delineated by a boundary, will have a length of between 2-2.5 nautical miles and it will be a up to 3x full laps windward leeward configuration with an upwind start to ensure a conventional match race pre-start.
The definitive race distance will depend on the wind speed and selected race course each day with an anticipated 35-minute race duration, including pre-start.
A tentative race time window is estimated between 1600-1800 local time in order for a typical March sea breeze to reliably establish itself across the Waitematā Harbour and Hauraki Gulf.

The Race Village has a limited visitor capacity and will open on the 15th of December and operate from 10:00am until 8:00pm on racing days and from 10am until 6pm on non racing days. Situated at the start of Hobson Wharf, it will continue on through the Eastern Viaduct and the Western Viaduct, up to the Jellicoe Car Park.

PRADA CUPFollowing New York Yacht Club American Magic informing the Regatta Director that they will not be racing in Round Robins 3 and 4 of the PRADA Cup this weekend, the racing schedule has been revised as follows:
Saturday 23rd of January 2021 – Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli vs INEOS TEAM UK – Start at 16:00 NZT
Sunday 24th of January 2021 – INEOS TEAM UK vs Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli – Start at 16:00 NZT
In order to comply with the formality of the Regulations, after finishing the above races both competitors will have to take the start of a “ghost race” vs New York Yacht Club American Magic to allow the Regatta Director to award the point to the relevant team. The “ghost race” will then be suspended just a few minutes after the start. The rule of 25 minutes between the two starts will not apply to these “ghost races”.
Should INEOS TEAM UK win the Saturday race, the Sunday race result will be redundant as INEOS TEAM UK would be the first classified team of the Round Robins and, as such, will go directly through to the PRADA Cup Final. In that event the two teams will have the choice whether or not to race on Sunday.
